## Editorial assessment

The Echo Show 11 is worth considering if you want a kitchen or living-room screen for Alexa that also works as a smart home hub. Amazon lists built-in support for Zigbee, Matter and Thread, so it can connect compatible sensors, plugs and bulbs without a separate hub. It has a 10.95-inch, 1920 × 1200 display, front-facing stereo speakers and a 13-megapixel camera for video calls.

Two things to weigh. The camera has no physical cover; you turn it off with a button. And Amazon's Echo Show 8, launched the same day, shares nearly all the same features for less. One reviewer questioned whether the bigger screen alone justifies the Show 11.

This is a source-based editorial review. HomeTenet has not documented hands-on testing of this display, so we do not publish numerical scores, brightness or audio measurements, or response times. [Our evidence policy](https://www.hometenet.com/how-we-test/).

## Who it suits, and who should skip it

**Consider it if** your home runs on Alexa, you want one device to act as both a display and a hub for Zigbee, Matter or Thread accessories, and you will use the screen for recipes, video calls or camera feeds.

**Skip it if** you want a screen in a bedroom or other private space and are not comfortable with a camera that has no cover, or if your home is built around Apple Home or Google Home. For a bedside Alexa device with no camera at all, see our [Echo Spot (2024) review](https://www.hometenet.com/amazon-echo-spot-2024-review/). If the larger screen is not important, compare the Echo Show 8 first.

## Echo Show 11 or Echo Show 8?

Amazon announced both on September 30, 2025, and they went on sale on November 12, 2025\. Amazon describes them together: the same AZ3 Pro processor, the same 13-megapixel camera, the same sensor platform and the same built-in hub. [Amazon's announcement](https://www.aboutamazon.com/news/devices/amazon-new-echo-devices-alexa-plus?ref=hometenet.com). [Engadget’s hands-on](https://www.engadget.com/home/smart-home/amazon-echo-show-8-and-show-11-hands-on-a-cuter-more-unified-smart-display-173918264.html?ref=hometenet.com) likewise describes similar features apart from screen size.

Amazon set the Show 11's launch price above the Show 8's. [TechRadar's review](https://www.techradar.com/home/smart-home-hubs/echo-show-11-review-a-new-bigger-screen-size-but-less-for-the-privacy-conscious?ref=hometenet.com) concluded that the Show 11 struggles to justify itself on screen size alone. Choose it for the room and viewing distance, not for extra capability.

## Display and design

Amazon specifies a 10.95-inch touchscreen at 1920 × 1200\. TechRadar described a bright picture with good viewing angles, but noted fingerprints on the glass.

The screen does not rotate or tilt by motor. TechRadar counted that as a loss compared with the Echo Show 10, which turned to face you.

## Camera, microphones and privacy

The 13-megapixel camera keeps you in frame during video calls. Amazon says the physical microphones-and-camera button disconnects both. Separate on-device and app controls can disable the camera while leaving Alexa usable. TechRadar confirms there is no built-in shutter over the lens.

Amazon's sensor platform, which it calls Omnisense, combines the camera, audio, ultrasound, Wi-Fi radar and motion sensing so Alexa can respond to who is nearby. Amazon gives the example of recognizing you as you approach. That is the feature set to review in settings if you prefer a device that senses less.

Two points of history are relevant to any Echo:

- Echo voice requests are processed in Amazon's cloud. In March 2025 Amazon ended an option that let some Echo models process requests on the device without sending recordings, saying generative AI features rely on cloud processing; the setting not to save recordings remained, as [the Associated Press reported](https://ny1.com/nyc/all-boroughs/ap-top-news/2025/03/19/amazon-ends-little-used-privacy-feature-that-let-echo-users-opt-out-of-sending-recordings-to-company?ref=hometenet.com).
- In May 2023, the FTC announced a proposed settlement requiring a $25 million civil penalty over allegations involving children's Alexa voice recordings and deletion requests. That enforcement action is distinct from an assessment of this device. [FTC announcement](https://www.ftc.gov/news-events/news/press-releases/2023/05/ftc-doj-charge-amazon-violating-childrens-privacy-law-keeping-kids-alexa-voice-recordings-forever?ref=hometenet.com).

HomeTenet has not audited the device's data handling. Review the camera, microphone and voice-recording settings in the Alexa app during setup.

## Smart home hub

Amazon says each new Echo device has a built-in smart home hub with support for Zigbee, Matter and Thread. Amazon’s product specifications confirm a Thread border router, Wi-Fi 6E and Bluetooth 5.4\. In practice that means many Zigbee sensors and Matter accessories can pair directly through the Alexa app.

What a hub supports on paper and what a specific accessory exposes can differ. Check that your accessory lists Alexa or Matter support before relying on it. Pairing an accessory in Alexa does not automatically add it to Apple Home or Google Home. Compatible Matter accessories may also be shared with another Matter ecosystem through its supported sharing process; Zigbee pairing alone does not provide that sharing. [Matter multi-admin explained by AWS](https://docs.aws.amazon.com/prescriptive-guidance/latest/strategy-matter-standard/understanding-matter.html?ref=hometenet.com).

TechRadar reported that the built-in temperature, motion, brightness and presence sensing worked as expected and could trigger Alexa Routines.

## Audio

Amazon describes front-facing stereo speakers and a woofer. TechRadar judged the sound decent for the price and room-filling but not aimed at keen music listeners.

## Alexa+

The Echo Show 11 launched with early access to Alexa+, Amazon's generative AI assistant. Amazon’s US availability page, updated September 1, 2026 and checked October 8, 2026, says Alexa+ is available to everyone in the US and included for Prime members; without Prime, Amazon lists a monthly subscription for full access, with a limited free text version in the Alexa app and on the web. [Amazon: Alexa+ availability](https://www.aboutamazon.com/news/devices/alexa-plus-available-free-prime-members-us?ref=hometenet.com). Amazon also says not all features are available on all devices or in all locations.

Alexa+ terms and features have changed several times since launch, so check Amazon's current page before buying for a specific capability. TechRadar's reviewer, based in the UK, could not test Alexa+ and reviewed the display with standard Alexa.

## Reported problems

TechRadar's reviewer, after a week at home, reported a home screen often filled with suggested content, streaming apps that did not launch reliably by voice, and occasional unresponsiveness that needed a restart. These are one reviewer's findings from late 2025; software updates may have changed them.

## Frequently asked questions

### Does the Echo Show 11 have a camera shutter?

Not a physical one. A button turns off the camera and microphones, but there is no cover over the lens.

### Can it replace a smart home hub?

For many Alexa homes, yes. Amazon lists built-in Zigbee, Matter and Thread support. Check that each accessory you plan to use supports Alexa or Matter.

### Do I need to pay for Alexa+?

Amazon includes Alexa+ with Prime in the US. Without Prime, full access is a monthly subscription. The display also works with standard Alexa.

### What is the difference between the Echo Show 11 and Echo Show 8?

Mainly screen size and price. Amazon and Engadget describe the two as otherwise sharing the same features.

### Does it work with Apple Home or Google Home?

The display is managed through Alexa, rather than being an Apple Home or Google Home display. Compatible Matter accessories can be shared separately with another supported Matter ecosystem; pairing them in Alexa does not do this automatically.
